WestJet Unveils Biggest Winter Schedule Yet as Canada’s Favourite Sun Getaways Gain More Flights

WestJet has the capacity to increase its winter travel to Latin America and the Caribbean by 12 percent compared to last year. With the expansion to what will make WestJet the largest leisure airline in the country, the airline will offer vacation travel to four additional beach destinations like Mexico, Belize, Honduras and Aruba and give travelers even more options for winter escapes.

Western Canadian Cities Drive WestJet’s Biggest Sun Travel Expansion

WestJet is strengthening its presence across Western Canada with major schedule upgrades, increased flight capacity and expanded connectivity to popular winter sun destinations. The airline’s latest network expansion is being driven by higher flight frequencies, larger aircraft deployment and the launch of new routes, creating more opportunities for Canadian travellers seeking warm-weather escapes during the 2026/2027 winter season.

Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg and Regina are emerging as key growth markets, with each city receiving significant capacity increases across Latin America and the Caribbean. The expansion reflects WestJet’s continued focus on connecting Canadian communities with high-demand leisure destinations.

Saskatoon Records Strongest Growth with 77 Per Cent Capacity Increase

Saskatoon will experience the largest year-over-year growth among Western Canadian cities, with WestJet increasing winter capacity by 77 per cent. The airline will introduce additional weekly flights from Saskatoon to Puerto Vallarta and Cancun in Mexico, expanding both routes from four weekly services to five during peak travel periods.

The enhanced schedule will provide travellers from Saskatchewan with greater flexibility and more options to access two of Mexico’s most popular beach destinations.

Edmonton Expands Mexico and Caribbean Connectivity with 34 Per Cent Growth

WestJet will increase Edmonton’s winter sun capacity by 34 per cent, supported by additional frequencies to key leisure destinations. The airline will operate twice as many weekly flights between Edmonton and Los Cabos, Mexico, as well as between Edmonton and Montego Bay, Jamaica, compared with the previous winter season.

The expanded services will strengthen Edmonton’s connection to both Mexican coastal resorts and Caribbean holiday destinations, giving travellers more choices for winter vacations.

Calgary Strengthens Position as WestJet’s Global Hub with 18 Per Cent Growth

Calgary will see an 18 per cent increase in winter sun capacity as WestJet continues to expand its operations from the city. The airline is significantly growing its Mexico network, including the introduction of twice-daily flights between Calgary and Los Cabos, increased daily services to Cancun and the launch of new non-stop flights connecting Calgary with Merida, Mexico.

Beyond Latin America, Calgary will also play a central role in WestJet’s wider international expansion with enhanced long-haul connectivity.

Winnipeg Gains New Routes and 26 Per Cent Winter Capacity Growth

WestJet will increase Winnipeg’s winter sun capacity by 26 per cent, adding more flights to several popular destinations across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Travellers from Winnipeg will benefit from increased weekly frequencies to Liberia in Costa Rica, along with Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos in Mexico. The airline will also introduce new seasonal routes from Winnipeg to Belize City, Belize, and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

These additions will expand access to some of the region’s most sought-after beach destinations.

Regina Achieves 64 Per Cent Growth with New Mexico Service

Regina will record a 64 per cent year-over-year increase in winter sun capacity as WestJet expands its network from the Saskatchewan capital.

For the first time, the airline will introduce non-stop flights between Regina and Los Cabos, Mexico, creating a direct connection between the city and one of Mexico’s leading luxury resort destinations.

The new service adds another option for travellers looking for convenient winter escapes without connecting through larger Canadian airports.

WestJet Expands Long-Haul Network with Calgary-São Paulo Dreamliner Service

WestJet is also strengthening its international footprint with the launch of a new non-stop Dreamliner service between Calgary and São Paulo, Brazil. The route will become the only direct connection between Western Canada and South America, marking a major milestone in the airline’s global network expansion.

The approximately 14-hour flight will connect Canadian travellers with São Paulo, one of South America’s largest economic and cultural centres.

Through WestJet’s partnership with LATAM, passengers travelling from Calgary will also gain access to more than 60 additional destinations across South America through direct booking interline connections on WestJet’s platform.

The new Brazil service complements WestJet’s seasonal winter Dreamliner operations, including flights to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Maui. The airline will continue operating daily year-round Dreamliner services from Calgary to London Heathrow, Paris and Tokyo.

Seasonal services to Rome and Seoul will continue with extended schedules through November before returning in March 2027. During the summer season, WestJet also operates Dreamliner flights from Calgary to Dublin, Edinburgh and Barcelona.

With expanded regional connectivity, new international routes and increased aircraft capacity, WestJet’s 2026/2027 winter schedule reinforces its focus on strengthening Canada’s access to global leisure destinations while supporting growing demand for international travel.
