New Delhi: The Centre has nominated seven Members of Parliament to the Institute bodies of seven new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences, giving the MPs a formal role in the statutory bodies overseeing the institutions.
The nominations, notified by the Union health ministry on September 15, cover AIIMS at Awantipora, Bathinda, Bhopal, Guwahati, Jodhpur, Vijaypur and Madurai.
The MPs nominated are Gulam Ali for AIIMS Awantipora, Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal for AIIMS Bathinda, Rajneesh Kumar Agrawal for AIIMS Bhopal, Birendra Prasad Baishya for AIIMS Guwahati, Madan Rathore for AIIMS Jodhpur, Sat Paul Sharma for AIIMS Vijaypur and I S Inbadurai for AIIMS Madurai.
The nominations have been made under Section 4(g) of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1956, as amended by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Act, 2012.
The notification states that the term of office of the nominated members will be governed by Section 6 of the AIIMS Act.
The seven institutions are part of the newer AIIMS network established across different parts of the country.
