Byas Municipality has constructed a new artificial lake which will promote tourism as well as help the locals with their living standards and also change the landscape of Dumsichaur. The new tourist spot, Nareshwor Lake, was built by blocking the flow of the Nareshwor stream in Ward No. 10 and has started filling up with water. This is yet another effort by Nepal to make way for new tourism destinations as well as to beautify the existing ones.

Located in Gandaki Province, Tanahun is known for its scenic hills, rivers, cultural heritage and natural landscapes. The Gandaki Province Government allocated Rs. 15 million towards the development of the lake project. Additional financial support included Rs. 1 million from the Provincial Lake Conservation Authority and Rs. 5 million from Byas Municipality.

For construction activities, Byas Municipality awarded the project contract to GES Construction Service at a cost of Rs. 18.4 million.

The investment highlights the importance of tourism infrastructure development as a tool for regional economic growth. By creating new attractions, authorities aim to increase visitor movement, generate business opportunities and encourage community participation in tourism activities.

Large Artificial Lake Creates Scenic Landscape for Visitors

Nareshwor Lake covers an area of approximately 28 ropanis and stretches around 300 metres in length. The width of the lake varies between 28 metres and 68 metres, while the average depth is around 3.5 metres.

The reservoir has been constructed using a concrete gravity dam structure and can store approximately 30,000 cubic metres of water. The size and design of the lake allow it to serve both tourism and agricultural purposes.

The transformation of the stream area into a lake has created a peaceful natural setting surrounded by the scenic beauty of Tanahun’s hills. To develop the lake infrastructure, Byas Municipality acquired private land from local residents. A total of 24 ropanis and 11 annas of land were obtained for the project.

The municipality distributed approximately Rs. 13.7865 million as compensation to affected landowners. Compensation rates were determined according to land categories, with payments provided based on the classification of acquired land.

The land acquisition process allowed authorities to create a larger tourism zone around the lake, providing space for future development activities and visitor facilities.

The project is expected to create long-term benefits by combining tourism development with improved infrastructure and economic opportunities for nearby communities.

Tourism Facilities Planned to Improve Visitor Experience

The development of Nareshwor Lake is not limited to water storage. Authorities are planning additional tourism facilities around the attraction to improve visitor experiences.
