The Supreme Court on Monday allowed the bursting of approved green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR on November 7 and 8, but has imposed strict time and location restrictions, news agency PTI reported. The court has directed authorities to ensure that firecrackers are burst only between 6 am and 7 am and 8 pm and 10 pm on the two days, it said.

The complete ban on firecrackers in Delhi-NCR, which was imposed earlier, will be restored from November 9, the Supreme Court said.

The court has also prohibited the bursting of fireworks within a 300-metre radius of hospitals, old-age homes and any notified silence zones across Delhi-NCR.

Restrictions on firecrackers in Delhi-NCR

The Supreme Court has directed authorities in Delhi-NCR to take steps to prevent the circulation of illegal and conventional firecrackers.

Reiterating its earlier restrictions, the court said that firecrackers containing barium and those not approved by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research–National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI) as green crackers will not be permitted.

The court further clarified that manufacturers of firecrackers and fireworks holding valid certification will be permitted to manufacture only green crackers.
