Mumbai: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) said it has initiated penal action in a major crackdown against ecommerce platforms including Amazon, Swiggy Instamart, Bigbasket, Flipkart India and Zepto.
In an update shared on social media, FSSAI said it found various food safety and regulatory non-compliances, including misbranding or misleading claims sale and display of prohibited or poisonous food articles through these platforms.
The regulatory body has initiated penal actions under the FSS Act, 2006 and applicable FSSAI Regulations.
The action covers Happilo Premium Date Bites (Zesty Orange), three Milky Mist dairy products and Datura fruits and seeds.
The action comes amid heightened regulatory scrutiny of food products sold through e-commerce platforms as well as packaged food manufacturers.
Earlier this month, FSSAI said it has filed three adjudication cases against Nestle India over non-compliance of advertisement rules and sub-standard infant nutrition products.
Nestle responded by saying it was fully compliant with all applicable regulations.
