India Launches Air Suvidha 2.0 for Mandatory Ebola Screening of International Travellers, ETHealthworld

New Delhi: The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) have launched Air Suvidha 2.0, an upgraded contactless passenger health self-declaration portal to strengthen public health surveillance at points of entry in response to the ongoing Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda.

The portal was developed in collaboration with the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The portal requires all international passengers arriving in India to submit a mandatory online health self-declaration covering their 21-day travel history, exposure history and any related symptoms before immigration clearance.

Passengers can complete the self-declaration form up to 24 hours before arriving in India and are encouraged to fill it before boarding or during web check-in for faster processing. On arrival, they are only required to present the downloaded form at the International Travel Health Desk or Immigration counter, eliminating the need for physical paperwork.

According to the ministry, the portal enables real-time data sharing with the Airport Health Officer, Bureau of Immigration, IDSP and State Surveillance Officers, ensuring swift identification and referral of at-risk travellers.

It added that this also helps in maintaining a seamless and contactless arrival experience, with no physical forms to fill on landing.

The launch follows the World Health Organisation (WHO) declaration of the Bundibugyo virus disease outbreak in the DRC and Uganda as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on May 17, 2026, under the International Health Regulations (2005).

As of June 25, the DRC had reported 1,094 confirmed Ebola cases, including 277 deaths, while Uganda had recorded 20 cases and two deaths. The WHO has warned that the outbreak continues to outpace response efforts, with neighbouring countries, including South Sudan, assessed as being at high risk of transmission.
