The Environment and Protected Areas Authority of Sharjah has been part of the World Travel Market (WTM) held in London from November 4 to 6, 2025. This occasion is one of the most important international promotion events for the travel and tourism industries. Participation is indicative of the position Sharjah is acquiring in the world of eco-tourism. The EPAA is presenting Sharjah Safari, certainly one of the most important ecological and tourism sites in the region, and is placing emphasis on the sustainable tourism and biodiversity conservation ethos of the emirate.

The Sharjah participation in the WTM is indicative of the excessive efforts to consolidate the emirate’s position in the eco-tourism segment. With Sharjah Safari leading the charge, the emirate showcases the reality that conservation and tourism can coexist, establishing a new paradigm of sustainable travel, which has the capability to transform tourism on a global scale.

Sharjah Safari: A Unique Eco-Tourism Experience

Sharjah Safari is the largest safari outside of Africa, offering visitors a one-of-a-kind educational, environmental, and recreational experience. Spread over eight square kilometers, the safari is home to 120 species of African animals and birds, offering a diverse look at Africa’s vast wildlife without the need to travel to the continent. The safari is divided into 12 distinct ecosystems, each one carefully designed to replicate the authentic African landscapes and terrain, making it a truly immersive experience.

Visitors can explore different regions of Africa in a single visit, as Sharjah Safari spans ecosystems ranging from the savannah to deserts and tropical rainforests. This model not only provides a rich ecological experience but also serves as an educational platform, helping tourists and visitors from all over the world understand the delicate balance of nature and the need for wildlife conservation.

This innovative approach positions Sharjah Safari as an essential destination for those interested in wildlife and environmental education. It combines conservation efforts with tourism in a way that both entertains and educates, making it a unique offering in the world of eco-tourism.

Promoting Sustainable Tourism and Biodiversity Protection

Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah, emphasized that Sharjah’s participation in the WTM is part of the broader vision laid out by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. This vision incorporates environmental protection as a core principle of Sharjah’s development identity.

At WTM, Al Suwaidi remarked, “Our participation reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi in making environmental protection an integral part of Sharjah’s development identity. Through this participation, we seek to highlight Sharjah Safari as a unique model combining wildlife conservation with sustainable tourism, reinforcing Sharjah’s position as a leader in managing integrated environmental and tourism projects.”

The participation at WTM also strengthens Sharjah’s position in the eco-tourism market, where more travelers are looking for destinations that emphasize environmental sustainability and responsible tourism. The integration of wildlife conservation efforts with tourism creates a powerful narrative that not only attracts eco-conscious tourists but also helps raise awareness about the importance of protecting endangered species and their habitats.

The Role of Technology in Eco-Tourism

In addition to its commitment to conservation, Sharjah Safari has integrated digital tools to enhance visitor experiences. The Safari uses cutting-edge technology to provide interactive tours, offering guests insights into the ecosystems they explore. The digital platform helps educate visitors on the importance of preserving Africa’s biodiversity while providing an engaging and informative experience.

The use of smart technology allows visitors to better understand the impact of conservation efforts. Through augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences, tourists can learn about the different species they encounter, along with the ongoing efforts to preserve their habitats. These technologies provide a more engaging experience, appealing especially to younger travelers who are tech-savvy and eager to learn about wildlife conservation through interactive means.

Sharjah’s Vision for Eco-Tourism

Sharjah’s participation in the World Travel Market is not only about promoting a single destination, but about positioning the Emirate of Sharjah as a leader in eco-tourism and sustainable development in the region. The city is already home to a number of eco-friendly tourism projects, including the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve, which highlights the emirate’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

Sharjah’s goal is to create a regional synergy that combines natural preservation with tourism development, helping the Emirate become a global hub for eco-tourism. Through the continued development of sites like Sharjah Safari and other conservation projects, the city is creating a platform for responsible tourism, which appeals to tourists looking for experiences that are both educational and eco-conscious.

Expanding International Partnerships and Cooperation

By participating in WTM, Sharjah is also expanding its international cooperation with institutions involved in eco-tourism and nature conservation. The event provides a unique platform for the EPAA to exchange knowledge, forge partnerships, and broaden its collaboration with international organizations that share its goals for sustainable tourism development.

The exhibition in London provides an excellent opportunity for Sharjah to showcase its achievements and showcase its vision to a global audience, including travel agents, tour operators, and eco-tourism experts. Through these international connections, Sharjah is positioning itself to attract not only regional tourists but also global travelers looking for meaningful and impactful travel experiences.

Sharjah Safari’s Growing Popularity

Sharjah Safari has already become a major attraction for international tourists, particularly those interested in safari tourism and wildlife conservation. The growing popularity of the destination reflects the increasing demand for eco-friendly tourism options that allow travelers to experience nature and wildlife without causing harm to the environment. As the global tourism industry becomes more attuned to sustainability, destinations like Sharjah Safari are playing a pivotal role in meeting the needs of conscious travelers.

The success of Sharjah Safari also aligns with global trends in tourism, where visitors are increasingly seeking destinations that offer authentic experiences while contributing to the preservation of natural ecosystems. Sharjah’s unique offering of an African-style safari in the heart of the Arabian Peninsula provides a distinctive and memorable experience, making it a standout attraction on the global tourism map.

Sharjah’s Commitment to Sustainable Travel

Sharjah is leading the new generation of tourists by incorporating education and sustainability into the tourism experience. As part of this vision, Sharjah Safari is the ideal combination of conservation and tourism, allowing tourists and locals to experience and appreciate the unique educational wildlife safari while understanding the value of wildlife conservation, one of the most unique safari experiences outside of Africa.

Sharjah is also a leader in integrating protective measures for the environment with tourism, thus the emirate is positioned to gain tourists from all over the world in this sector. Safely acquiring authentic natural experiences and witnessing the dedication to eco tourism will make Sharjah a planned tourism destination for travelers. Sharjah’s sustainability tourism vision, as exhibited at events like the world tourism mart, will inspire other locations to adopt the same principles in the future.
