Medical officers along with IMA doctors and senior residents declare token one day strike from tomorrow, ETHealthworld

Pune: Around 4,000 medical officers across Maharashtra will observe a one-day token strike along with more than one lakh allopathic doctors associated with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and thousands of resident doctors from various govt medical colleges.

This action is certain to bring the healthcare system in the state to a standstill on Thursday, 18 September.

The strike is against the state govt decision to register BHMS-CCMP doctors under the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC). Along with medical officers, thousands of medical consultants will also join this strike.

Earlier, last week the IMA had announced that it would launch a one-day strike to oppose this decision. Later, multiple associations joined this strike, including the Maharashtra State Association of Resident Doctors (MARD).

Late Tuesday evening, the Association of Medical Officers (AMO) Maharashtra State released a press statement announcing their decision to go on strike.

The statement read, “All government doctors under our organization extend full support to the one-day strike announced by all private doctors of the Indian Medical Association from 8:00 AM on 18 September 2025 to 8:00 AM on 19 September 2025.” The statement further states that, “As government doctors, our duty is not only to treat patients but also to safeguard the overall health of the public.”

On Wednesday, the Association of Medical Consultants (AMC) also extended their support to the IMA through a letter to the IMA President, Dr Santosh Kadam, on Tuesday. The letter also calls for all members, hospitals, and medical establishments to participate fully in this shutdown and ensure its success.

The complete shutdown by multiple organizations for 24 hours starting from 8 am on Thursday is anticipated to postpone many planned surgeries and impact the healthcare system in the Maharashtra.
