Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA) has entered into a research partnership with the Ipseity, a US-based research centre, for a detailed study on urinary tract diseases.
IMA-AP president Dr G Nanda Kishore said chronic urinary tract diseases, particularly long-term urinary infections, have become a major health concern for many people in terms of public health protection.
The treatments currently being prescribed by doctors through antibiotics are failing to completely eliminate the infections, leading to an increasing number of patients frequently suffering from urinary tract infections (UTIs), he said.
“Urine samples will be collected from 300 patients suffering from chronic UTIs across the state, and high-end tests such as molecular PCR and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) profiling will be conducted.
The aim is to identify which antibiotics are most effective in completely treating these infections. This would help in significantly reducing both the health risks and financial burdens on patients,” Dr Nanda Kishore said, and appealed to IMA doctors across the state to support this research initiative.
Ipseity research centre CEO Dr Sandeep Nadendla said as a native of Andhra Pradesh, his goal is to bring advanced medical diagnostics and research closer to the people of his home state.
He emphasized that collaborative efforts between IMA doctors and research institutions would help in early diagnosis and effective treatment of diseases prevalent among the people.
